RN develops forward positioning forces
How is the UK developing force structures capable of sustained overseas intervention?
Amid the emergence of ‘grey zone’ and hybrid operations below the threshold of war, UK RN amphibious forces are completing a restructuring and change of posture to enable the deployment of platforms and units with equipment for sustained engagement in theatre.
In particular, the Littoral Strike (LS) and Future Commando Force (FCF) concepts are designed to provide the RN with force structures and units better able to intervene overseas.
This is in marked contrast to the previous force structure of Amphibious Task Forces undertaking short-term deployments for purely warfighting roles and conducting amphibious assaults on targets.
